ARTIST BIO
Teresa Baker was born is 1977 in Alice Springs but is from the community of Kanpi, South Australia. Teresa is the daughter of the acclaimed Jimmy Baker from whom she developed her artistic talent and learnt her sacred Dreamtime stories from.
Teresa paints “Marlilu Tjukurrpa” which portrays a topographical depiction of her sacred Country that formed during the Dreamtime, as her ancestral spirits moved across the land.
Like many female South Australian artists, Teresa incorporates bold and vivid colours into her work taking the viewer on an uplifting journey as the artist maps out the scared sites within her community.
However, what sets Teresa apart from traditional South Australian dot work is the artist’s more intricate styling which she has been recognised for a finalist in the 2016 Telstra Art Prize, the 2016 Blake Prize and the 2017 Wynne prize!
